The Ferryman Mix Tape

This month's playlist is... so good. Like, almost every song on it could be a contender for greatest song ever written. And that's because it's is solely comprised of tracks by The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and The Beatles. How can it lose?!

I was inspired to use these three bands because they are specifically referenced in Jez Butterworth's new play The Ferryman. We're doing scene studies from this play in class so, as usual, I wanted to make a soundtrack for my character. All these songs predate 1981, when the action of the play takes place.

In the brilliant opening scene of the play, Caitlin and Quinn are arguing about which one of these bands they would choose to save on a lifeboat. To provoke an incredulous Quinn, Caitlin chooses Led Zeppelin, explaining that:

'You never said anything about music. You said who would I rather be stuck in a lifeboat with. If it's between Jimmy and Robert and all those other spotty wee fucks? If I can pick 'n' mix: Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, George Harrison, and Keith Richards. But he's going to have to have a fuckin' good wash first!'

(I will say, I find it a little bit unrealistic that neither character mentions the shocking deaths of both John Bonham and John Lennon that both occurred less than a year before the play is meant to take place.)

I would also pick Led Zeppelin--based both on looks AND music!

Who would you save?

PS Guess who has 2 thumbs and is going to see the Stones live in concert this month thanks to her awesome brother???!?!!??!! That's right, it's MEEEEEEE!!!!!!
