ABOUT

Weekes

"I am not like you. If you knew my thoughts, the dreams that absorb me, and the fiery imagination that at times eats me up, and makes me feel society, as it is, wretchedly insipid, you would pity and I dare say despise me."

Charlotte Brontë

Weekes, party of one, is an American born singer-songwriter living in south London, creating dreamy synthpop tracks with acidic undertones (when she’s not punching the clock, reading Victorian novels, or feeding her cats).

Growing up, Weekes was more of a bandaid than a bandmate, following the Athens (Georgia) music scene from the side-lines while she studied classical vocal technique and theatre at university.

After a stint in New York and before hightailing it to London, Weekes was a member of Atlanta-based duo ‘The Tantamounts’—to which she lent her vocals, keys, and synths in collaboration with songwriter Jeff Israel. While Weekes and Jeff continue to collaborate via the postal service, Weekes has recently set out to forge her own path in hopes that her voice is heard by someone other than her judgemental felines.

The lyrics from her debut LP are drawn from a series of prose poems written about her previous life in Manhattan. Distinctive in her layered ethereal vocals, Weekes's music is a deeply personal study in love, anxiety, depression, and ultimately redemption.
