Let's Get Lyrical: Normal Man

I think of this song as 'the Jaya song' because I was recording it as my friend's baby, Jaya, was coming into the world. Specifically, I was ridiculously recording a one-woman-army of hand claps--similar activity to giving birth, right?

Oddly (as it is a song about my cold, unfeeling heart) this song gives my heart warm little pangs of sweet memory. It's about a dear old friend who was anything but a normal man.

I hope he's okay whereever he is now.

Normal Man

It had been snowing all day

Blanketing the city

Night fell and I knew

That his plane would be here soon.

All day my heart had stirred

At the words that I had heard

Calling like some normal man

Oh to touch his soft hands.

Covered in snow

Always, always

I don't know

How to let go.

Everything was still and white

Our tracks the first that night

He wanted to taste the snow

I wanted to let him go.

Covered in snow

Always, always

I don't know

I don't know.

Covered in snow

Always, always

I don't know

How to let go.

Covered in snow

Always, always

I don't know

How to let him go.
