Let's Get Lyrical: 'Dance Violent'

Happy Friday (I'm pretending like it's not the 13th!!!)
'Dance Violent' is the very first song that I wrote (formally). The writing and recording happened over the course of 2 days, and I've left it virtually untouched since then. It's like it's my baby who I don't want to change.
It's a longer, more contemplative track, and I consider it the glue that holds Pocket Bible together.
The lyrics, I guess, are pretty self-explanatory. I wrote the words on one of those really hot, stifling New York days where you feel your mind wandering off in different directions--usually to places you don't want it to go (existential dread or longing for someone you cannot have). After watching the leaves dance out the window for some time, I was eventually obliged to take a walk.
Dance Violent
A botanical Charleston
Leaves like sequins on a dress
Dance violent in the golden
Sun of the afternoon.
These thoughts won't do.
These thoughts, they will not do.
Cloudy, sultry kind of thoughts
Beads of sweat on collarbones
No one else around
To lick them off.
These thoughts won't do.
These thoughts, they will not do.
Yellow cabs and small dogs
Subway grates and dark clouds
Skin like tissue paper
Or pages of a pocket bible.
These thoughts won't do.
These thoughts, they will not do.
Be on the lookout for this tune to hit the airwaves (errrr... your inbox? Spotify?) within the next couple of weeks... and have a swell weekend!
