Let's Get Lyrical: 'Phonies'

A HUGE thank you to those of you who listened to my new single last week and donated to hurricane relief! Additionally, my artist page is finally back up and running, so don't forget to gimme some love on Spotify.

It can be sort of miserable showing up to gigs alone as the girlfriend/bandaid of a musician. I spent my early twenties going to a lot of shows by myself, standing around feeling uncomfortable and listening to groups of hipster girls talk about my boyfriend. Joy!

Track 5 speaks to this particular brand of misery. The song owes its title to the classic novel Catcher in the Rye. It's my anti-hipster ballad.

Phonies

Lower East Side venue

Name on list

Stamp on hand

I made my way inside.

Underworld of music and mingling

Jaundice boys and

Scraggly girls:

Caulfield phonies.

Crook your neck in my arm

Kiss you on the mouth

It wasn't enough

It wasn't enough.

Soft denium

Sweat-dark hair above his ears

Near caress of his mouth

On microphone.

Crook your neck in my arm

Kiss you on the mouth

It wasn't enough

It wasn't enough.

Songs are memories

Killing me softly

I knew his songs

had all played out.

Crook your neck in my arm

Kiss you on the mouth

It wasn't enough

It wasn't enough.
