Firstly, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to those of you who subscribed! Sadly, I don't know who this is because after bragging about how super easy it is to subscribe, it turns out that the form on the email didn't register subscriptions that are already in my Gmail contacts. Jolly good! So, if you are receiving this in error--if you absolutely had no intention of subscribing and are appalled by my correspondence--please feel free to unsubscribe!!!!

I'm happy to report that I was fairly productive this weekend. On Saturday, I managed to lay down the instrumentals for a Smiths cover that will be available as an exclusive download for you lucky subscribers (willing or no)! I'm not 100% sold yet on my interpretation--due to the rockabilly nature of the song, I might need to adapt a sparser arrangement for it to better work with the synth pad sound I'm using. I shall sit on it, have a think, and hopefully pick it back up this weekend.

On Sunday night, I wrote a new song. I was flirting with a Led Zeppelin cover at the keyboard when inspiration hit, so the track has a 1970's flavour. It builds from a retro electric keyboard and simple bass melody in the verse to a brighter 1980-ish synth-y chorus. I'm excited for it! (In fact, I was so engrossed by it that I forgot to watch Poldark.) But it's usually not until I try to layer on vocals that I discover whether or not something is actually good...

So, last night I laid down a preliminary vocal track just to mark the melody and lyrics I wrote while riding the bus to work... and I remain encouraged! I've set aside this coming weekend for a Vocal Fixes Extravaganza, so here's hoping that I don't catch a cold in the meantime!

I have found that when I am developing a chorus that doesn't yet have words, I always use 'I don't like you' as filler lyrics. I wonder what that says about me? Do any of you other songwriters have funny go-to stock lyrics?

Until next week, my pretties (whom I assuredly like).
